In the following days, in the lead up to the events of Holy Week, we will take time to reflect on some of the key teaching and moments of Jesus’ last days on earth.
The Bible verse for today is part of one of Jesus’ big sermons, known as the Sermon on the Mount. It’s called the Sermon on the Mount because he was standing of the side of a mountain when he spoke to his people. In this sermon, Jesus encourages his people to choose God’s way of love by showing love and forgiveness and care for other people. You can read it in the Bible in the gospel of Matthew chapters 5-7.
Bible Verse: Matthew 5:1-2, 13a, 14, 16
Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
Something to think about: I wonder how you could show the light of Jesus to other people.
Prayer: Thank you, Father God in heaven, thank you for the gift of your love. May we be shining examples of your love to others. Amen.
Being Salt and Light
Christians are often referred to as people who bring the light of God to people who don’t know him. We bring out the God-colours to the people around us. As Christians, our lives should look different, with our thoughts, words and actions always pointing to heaven. As a reminder of God’s light that shines through us, make a lantern and place it on your table during this Holy Week.
